HOW ONE-ON-ONE LESSONS WORK

How Private Coaching Works:

First you will out the online consultation form. Then we first meet via Zoom for a 30 minute free consultation. Once we’ve discussed our training plans we start. Once a week we meet on Zoom or in person for an hour (may be less of more) lesson. We do this for once a week for 4-6 weeks. I say 4-6 weeks because working with me is results-based so there is no rush if you struggle a little. This is the same reason our lessons may last less than or just over an hour. We will work at your pace and the dogs.

During these lessons, I will coach you on training your dog on the most important obedience tasks:

  • Recall - Come when called

  • (Loose Leash & Heel) Leash walking without pulling

  • Boundary training

  • Sit, Down (stay & implied stay)

  • Place Command

  • Out or Leave-it

  • As well as more tips, tricks & need to know information!

With the private training all of my attention is focused on you and your dog!

  • Many clients ask this as coaching you on training is hard work for us all and our dogs. It is incredibly rewarding and when our hard work pays off. In can be frustrating and disheartening when your work can be undone. Here are some tips to help prevent that.

    • Avoid dog parks, especially ones that are fenced in and where any dog can attend. Some cities have off leash friendly hiking trails or large open spaces/fields. These would be a safer option. Still you must be aware of the risks you take when introducing your dog to another who you do not know or trust.

    • Avoid doggy daycares. Unfortunately the canine industry for services is not as regulated as it should be. This includes doggy daycares. These can be a breeding ground for bacteria and a place where people are managing large groups of dogs in a high risk setting. The idea of a safe daycare is where there are no more than 5-10 dogs per staff (size of dogs and temperaments taken into consideration) as well as staff on sight watching dogs overnight.

    • Make sure those in your household (children, roommate, partner) are on board with what you are working on with your dog and respect your new rules and routine. Nobody wants to spend weeks on resource guarding training or begging for food to find out your roommate was letting them eat from the table when you’re not home!

  • This is always asked in consultations. I believe the most important and fun living being for your dog to interact with is you! Still I know people often want their dog to meet a friends dog to have playdates or you are thinking of adding a rescue dog into your home with your existing dog. Whatever the scenario once your relationship is built and you have control over your dog we can begin the proper socialization training. This is a good goal to have and often attainable for most dogs and owners.

  • I get asked this A LOT and I understand why. Training is a lot of work but it pays off. I truly believe the saying “if you don’t use it you lose it”. We always dedicate time and a consistent routine to training until we reach specified goals. Once we get to this stage we work on spacing out corrections and rewards. For as long as you have your dog you will still train and work on new challenges for your dog. The training should always be fun and with time it will become easy, care free and apart of your and your dogs routine. They will thank you for it with better learned behaviours!
